Day 58: St. George to Springville...

Wednesday, October 24th:

Today we spent most of the day visiting historic sites in St. George. We have wanted to visit this city for awhile to check it out as a potential spot for a winter home... it is a very beautiful setting surrounded by gorgeous red rock hills...

The first spot we visited was Brigham Young's winter home...

Then we went to the St. George Temple...

This is a very beautiful temple and was the first one built and completed after the Saints migrated to the west...

Not far from the Temple is the St. George Tabernacle... This building has been used since the 1860's for a social and spiritual gathering place for the Saints and is still used today...

These circular staircases (there are two) were the crowning glory of Myles Romney, the great-grandfather of Mitt Romney. They are an architectural gem...

This is a view of the main Cultural Hall...

We are standing behind the original podium that has been used by every prophet of the Church with the exception of Joseph Smith, Jr. who was martyred before the saints came west...

Just last week, a new town square was dedicated just outside the tabernacle... It has a water feature that commemorates the two rivers that converge in St. George... the kids love to play in it...

There is also a dancing fountain water feature that is also a hit with everyone and a great way to cool off...

We left St. George and travelled north to Springville... we stopped a small town called Kannaraville...

And Deb took this great photo of the moon coming up over the mountains...

We got into Springville at around 10:00 pm and about 10 minutes later, this camper burned up across the street from Jayson and Heidi's home... right behind the fire station.

It is good to be back with our children.
